Subject: National Haiti Disaster Relief Drive
To: us-announce@cammail.white-wolf.com, uscamarilla-ooc@cammail.white-wolf.com
I am sure most of you have heard about the devastating earthquake in Haiti this past Tuesday. The earthquake is said to have affected at least 3 million people. 300,000 people are left homeless, at least 50,000 are dead and more still missing or injured. Many of you have asked if/what we are going to be doing for a national charity drive for the disaster in Haiti, after some consideration I announce the charity.... Well how the charity is going to be working, as we're going a little out of the box for this, and at least one region has started doing a charity in this manner as well.
There are a few ways to help in this specific time of need, donating cash, donating goods and donating time.
We will be running this charity alongside the Quarterly charities, through June 30, 2010.
Monetary Donations
Donating cash can be done simply by going to a given organizations website, Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, World Vision, Doctors Without Borders, for more listings check out listings google has compiled oh so nicely for us.
Where you donate doesn't have to be one from here, but they're all good examples of places to donate
Donations of Goods and Time
However we understand that donation of money is not something all/most are able to do at this point in time. This is where the old adage of 'charity begins at home' comes into play. What do I mean by this, I mean, have your local domain contact and organization, local or a branch of a more major organization such as the Red Cross, and work out a 'local' charity drive with them. Help them put 'care packages' together, donate items for 'care packages', help with fund-raising drives. Find out what is needed and get people together to do actual charity work for your chosen organization.
Prestige
I almost wish I didn't have to mention this part, cause really stuff like this is way too serious to be worrying about earning prestige for. However I know it'll get more of you (collectively) if we tell you what kind of prestige this will be worth.
Prestige for this drive will be capped at 30N/month, if you do this as part of your regional drive, it will be combined into the national drive and made into national prestige instead of regional prestige.
Monetary donations, will be following the current standard of $3 per 1 prestige, however as this is a national charity drive that prestige is going to be worth National prestige. RECEIPTS ARE *REQUIRED*.
Time donations, will be worth 5 prestige per hour volunteered. *You should be able to get some confirmation of time volunteered with a given organization.*
Item donations, will be based on local coordinator recommendations however donations of this sort need to be itemized. Again Receipts / Proof of Donation are *REQUIRED*
Good Example:
Donated 30 normal sized bars of bath soap, 10 bottles of travel sized shampoo/conditioner to Local red cross
Bad example: snacks/soap/ramen (no sizes, no counts, no listing of who received the donations etc....)
Exceptional Service: Remember this may be possible, so send everything you've done for this charity in, it never looks bad to go above and beyond what you'll get awarded prestige for. We're holding pretty high standards to earn this type of award, but I thought I would mention that it is possible, if you do the exceptional type of work worthy of such an award.
How to report this: Donations of Goods and money must have receipts shown to your local DC/CC (or direct coord in the case of dc's) who will collect each months prestige for this drive and submit it in their monthly report as normal and include a separate report titled “Haiti Disaster Relief National Drive – domain/chapter code and mm/yy” send it to your regional reports list and regions ARC Charities, who will compile a list of National Charity participants to send to me.
Habitat for humanity and this drive, If you are doing work locally for Habitat it will be considered part of that drive, if you do work for Habitat for Haiti relief, it is considered part of this drive.
